How this calculator works

Pace is time divided by distance. Enter what you ran and how long it took to see your pace in both units, your average speed, and what that same pace would give you over common race distances. Holding one pace over a longer race is harder, so read the projections as an even-pace reference rather than a prediction.

Formula

  • Pace = total time / distance
  • Speed = distance / total time
  • 1 mile = 1.609344 km
  • Projected finish = pace × race distance

Frequently asked questions

What is a good running pace for beginners?

Many new runners settle between 6:30 and 8:00 per kilometer (about 10:30 to 13:00 per mile). A pace at which you can still talk in full sentences is the right effort for most training runs.

How do I convert pace per mile to pace per kilometer?

Divide the per-mile pace by 1.609344. A 9:00 mile is about 5:36 per kilometer.

How long is a marathon?

A marathon is 42.195 km (26.219 miles) and a half marathon is 21.0975 km (13.109 miles).
