How this calculator works
Pressure is force per unit area, and the SI unit is the pascal, one newton per square meter. Everyday readings use larger units: tire gauges show psi or bar, weather reports use hectopascals or inches of mercury, and blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury.
Formula
- 1 bar = 100,000 Pa
- 1 atm = 101,325 Pa (exact)
- 1 psi = 6,894.757 Pa
- 1 mmHg = 133.322 Pa; 1 atm = 760 mmHg
Worked example
32 psi to bar
- Value
- 32
- From
- Pound per square inch (psi)
- To
- Bar (bar)
Result2.2063223 bar
32 psi = 2.2063223 bar. 1 psi = 0.068947573 bar.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert psi to bar?
Multiply by 0.0689476. A tire at 32 psi is about 2.21 bar.
Is 1 bar the same as 1 atmosphere?
Nearly. 1 atm is 1.01325 bar, so the two differ by about 1.3%.
What is the difference between mmHg and torr?
For practical purposes they are the same. A torr is defined as exactly 1/760 of an atmosphere and differs from the conventional mmHg by less than one part in seven million. This converter uses the torr definition.
