How this calculator works
A full circle is 360 degrees, 2π radians, 400 gradians or one turn. Radians are the natural unit in mathematics and programming because the arc length equals the radius times the angle. Degrees are divided into 60 arcminutes, each of 60 arcseconds, which is how coordinates and astronomical positions are written.
Formula
- radians = degrees × π / 180
- degrees = radians × 180 / π
- 1 gradian = 0.9°
- 1° = 60 arcminutes = 3,600 arcseconds
Worked example
180 deg to rad
- Value
- 180
- From
- Degree (°)
- To
- Radian (rad)
Result3.1415927 rad
180 ° = 3.1415927 rad. 1 ° = 0.017453293 rad.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert degrees to radians?
Multiply by π/180. For example 180° is π radians, about 3.14159.
How many degrees is one radian?
About 57.2958°, which is 180/π.
What is a gradian?
One four-hundredth of a full circle, so a right angle is 100 gradians. It is used in some surveying work.
